Moving on up – creation of Puna Mahi Onehunga and The Yates Exchange

The town centre will be undergoing changes over the next couple of months with the opening of the OMC apartments imminent and the commercial developments below likely to open in March. As such, it seems like the perfect time to launch Puna Mahi Onehunga upstairs at 136a Onehunga Mall.

Set up and managed by the Onehunga Business Association (OBA), Puna Mahi is a shared office space, where business and small organisations can share resources and take action to get things done.

There will be some desks available for booking on a casual and regular basis as well as a space to help entrepreneurs set up and look to identify Onehunga as their home.

The OBA has shifted into Puna Mahi Onehunga alongside our long-term friends and tenants, The Onehunga Community News.

As part of this process the OBA is also setting up another new venture, the Yates Exchange at 11 Pearce Street. This event space will be a professional venue for meetings, presentations, small conferences and team planning days. The name is reference to Elizabeth and her husband Captain Michael Yates who were both involved in local politics with Elizabeth being the first woman mayor in the British Empire. The Exchange signifies a place of interaction and trade, highlighting Onehunga’s historical role as a commercial hub.

Onehunga has a gap for development of this nature and the OBA have spent some time looking for a suitable venue to set it up. We hope that both Puna Mahi Onehunga and The Yates Exchange will quickly settle into Onehunga.
