More doors open in Onehunga

Going into August there’s plenty happening in the Onehunga town centre and beyond. The wet weather can come keep some people lying low, but the retailers and services carry on!

Onehunga Four Square has opened with a lovely store replacing the former Baby Factory at 310 Onehunga Mall and the Shiloh Creative Life Centre launched their new venue at 117 Arthur Street. Other retailers have sprung up including Nirvana Eastern Imports (1 Paynes Lane) and Chinny Beauty Space.

This poor weather is bringing out some poor driving behaviour particularly on Arthur Street and Onehunga Mall. Please be courteous and do not double-park in a busy environment. Onehunga is a vibrant town and one poor decision away from a serious accident.

This is going to be particularly relevant to the corner of Grey Street and Onehunga Mall. This is a tricky spot and identified by the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board as a priority for Auckland Transport to address so providing respect to both drivers and pedestrians is paramount.

Another option is to walk or cycle around the community which helps alleviate some of the congestion and it is great for the soul.

On 14 September the Onehunga, Ellerslie and Penrose Business Associations are teaming up to host a Maungakiekie election event focused on business in our community. We are inviting the mainstream party candidates to come and join us at Onehunga Sport Football Club’s rooms at Waikaraka Park for some facilitated, robust conversation!
