Business working together is better for business

Too often business gets criticised for many complaints about the state of economy, price increases and asked to carry the costs. This can be absorbed by some large companies, but for many small to medium organisations, this is just not possible.

Here in Onehunga, we advocate for business coming together and sharing views, insights, and solutions. Unless you have a remarkable industry body, you are on your own. But an expansion of Onehunga Business Association boundary will help change this – supporting each other will help solution problems.

The most common issues the Business Association hears about are crime and transport. An expansion of the Business Improvement District boundaries is the first step in alleviating these issues.

To target crime, the OBA will:

  • Extend our CCTV network which is connected to the NZ Police network for immediate support.
  • Provide security patrols in the wider area.
  • Help eliminate graffiti quickly.

To help improve transport, we can lobby and tap shoulders. Alongside this, when projects are underway, we can liaise to engage and combat any impacts from construction. A prime example of this is Auckland Light Rail. It is likely to have impacts on the western side of Onehunga, but we do not have enough resource to tackle anything outside of our existing boundary.

This month we are hosting two networking events. The first, on 18 July, will have a guest speaker who will share her insights on the expansion of the Wiri Business Association. The second, on 20 July, is an after 5pm pizza and drink at Epic Brewery for any interested businesses.

The focus on these events is for Onehunga business leaders to come together, learn from one another and how the Business Association can help you.
