Busy time for consultation and planning

It has been time for participation lately. I have had my fill of consultation and there is still much underway like the Auckland Light Rail project. Between this large project, Auckland Council’s budget discussion and funding applications, it is a lot to take in and think about in respect to the future of town centre activities.

Thank you to everyone who came along to the Onehunga Festival last month – what a successful day we had. The largest turnout in years, the weather was wonderful, and everything went smoothly. We hope you all had a great day and were able to enjoy some of the great activities available.

Onehunga Business Association (OBA) has also made the decision that we will no longer be coordinating this event in the future and are talking to another local event organiser about taking this over. We will be involved in the festival committee, but we are focusing on events in the town centre and the expansion of our business events calendar.

The Onehunga Festival is entirely budget dependent as the Local Board is the festival’s chief sponsor and it would be virtually impossible to run it without their help therefore any cut to their funding will have an affect so watch this space as the Auckland Council budget process reaches its final conclusions.

Upcoming events

The OBA will be hosting our first Business Networking Breakfast on 11 May at Onehunga Café with speakers from Auckland Transport, Eke Panuku and Auckland Light Rail.

This year we are also hosting a keynote speaker luncheon with Gilbert Enoka on 13 June. Details about this will be published soon but you can be sure that this event will be popular. Gilbert has been involved with the All Blacks for 20+ years and is now their Leadership Manager. He has also been recently working with Chelsea Football Club premiere team.
