Working together supports business

It has been a traumatic month for everyone with the impact of floods and the cyclone being felt across almost everyone in some way. Many businesses were affected in some way with many having to clean up for hours not once but twice. Your support for them has been really appreciated.

This impact does not have boundaries and is felt beyond the town centre into our industrial area. It again reiterates the importance of a supportive network for our business community.

Last year I shared that the Onehunga Business Association (OBA) was investigating an expansion of our Business Improvement District programme. This process is ongoing, and an OBA team member is currently visiting all businesses in the wider Onehunga area to ensure we have the correct data. We will be in touch with everyone over the coming weeks and outlining the benefits of a better connected business community.

As a first step in our expansion, the OBA launched our Associate Membership package in 2023 aimed at organisations in our potential expansion area and for people who operate a business from home. We want to support your organisations to thrive and bring people together. Being a member of an active business association provides you with advocacy and support.

The OBA has a planned growth of our business events calendar to include a keynote speaker lunch in June and some other engagements such as crime prevention and subsidised First Aid courses. We will continue with our Business Networking Breakfasts and are looking at a panel discussion this month with some of our local politicians.
