Festive season is just around the corner

It is almost time to put up your tinsel and visit Father Christmas - the next big event for Onehunga is our Christmas Parade on Saturday 3 December.

After a brief hiatus, the team at the Onehunga Business Association are looking forward to bringing back the Christmas cheer and celebrating the festive season with our Onehunga community.

The parade will start at the corner of Arthur Street and Onehunga Mall, then head down the Mall, to the Princes Street roundabout and return on the western side of the street back up to Arthur Street. We are unable to use the Onehunga Primary field as in previous years so participants will assemble on Arthur Street itself.

This year the parade is being hosted by TVNZ ‘s Breakfast and local Indira Stewart. The theme is Candyland, and our community floats will be hotly contesting for the winner’s crown.

Following the parade, Santa will be located outside of St Peter’s Church alongside Jiggles the Clown and from 11.30 until 1.30pm there will be some face painting. Further down Onehunga Mall, there will be some balloon twisting outside the Onehunga Police Station.

This family event is one of the busiest for the town centre, so it is recommended that visitors spread out down the Mall for the best view.

PIGEONS!

Please help the Onehunga town centre by refraining from feeding pigeons. The Onehunga Business Association have been monitoring the state of faecal matter and it is getting to extraordinary levels.

We are creating stickers for windows and bus stops plus have called in the experts to help us with the hundreds of pigeons that are flocking to parts of the town. When people feed the pigeons, they are also encouraging rats and other pests that we do not want running around.

There has already been one slipping incident, so we want to avoid any other future problems, therefore, your help is needed to remove any opportunities.
