Potential expansion of the Onehunga Business Association

The Onehunga Business Association (OBA) is a member of the Business Improvement District programme with Auckland Council to improve our local business environment and grow the regional economy. However, our boundary is small and has traditionally focused on the town centre between Neilson and Grey Streets, from Galway to one-side of Selwyn. The OBA is currently investigating extending our boundary to include the wider Onehunga business area.

At the end of July, the Association will be holding in-person networking events to inform businesses of the proposed expansion, as well as getting feedback on the thoughts and needs of all the businesses in the expanded area. All current and potential BID members are welcome to come along to join in on the discussions and hear the plans in more detail.

An expanded BID boundary would mean more businesses would be represented, which in turn means more budget and a larger voice and greater promotion for our neighbourhood. It is providing an opportunity to do more to prevent crime in our community and ensure that Onehunga’s look and feel is consistent across the whole business community.

Due to our central location, Onehunga is always going to face infrastructure challenges with projects like Light Rail or motorway interchanges. It is essential that businesses have a unified voice to ensure that we continue to thrive.

Check out this month’s promotion – spend $40 or more and go into the draw to win a weekly prize draw for $500 Onehunga Prezzy card. Also, if you have not had a chance to check out the lights in the town centre, they run every weekend until the end of July between 6-10pm. They are beautiful.
