Celebrating Christmas in Onehunga

And just like that we are in the final weeks of the year and Christmas is only days away. Must be said that times flies when you are locked down in your house!

Onehunga town centre has had to find a different way to celebrate Christmas this year. Needing to cancel our traditional Christmas Parade was a sad, but inevitable, decision so this year we are Counting down to Christmas in a variety of ways - celebrating all that’s good and local to Onehunga.

Our decorations are going up, we have competitions and giveaways plus Father Christmas will be visiting Onehunga, be it socially distanced. Keep an eye on our website (www.onehunga.nz), our Facebook and Instagram pages for the daily updates.

And please remember that if you can shop local then all the Onehunga business owners appreciate it. Most of the Onehunga Mall shops are independently owned and operated and need your support to keep them going. And there are many options available for a variety of different budgets – and then we have Dress-Smart!

Our plans for the Onehunga Festival are in a state of flux at the moment. There is not as much money available to pay for it and we are finding it really challenging to contemplate fencing the Onehunga Bay Reserve to ensure we meet the Government’s criteria for vaccinated people only attending. Not to mention that we need to be at orange on the Covid Protection Framework.

For a community-led event these are quite large hurdles for us to climb so we may need to pause the festival this summer but, as we always are, welcome to your feedback so visit our website for the most up-to-date information.

Support Onehunga local this summer and you will see us all in 2022.
