Kicking off 2021 with the Onehunga Festival

Mark 27 February in your diaries. This is the date of the Onehunga Festival.

Located at the Onehunga Bay Reserve, the festival is always a fun place to come and join family amusements and entertainment. You will find community, retail and food stalls plus inflatables, farm animals and pony rides. All of this is free to enjoy thanks to generous sponsors and grants.

Other highlights for the festival include:

  • Stage of entertainment with Onehunga local Josh Leys and the lively Auckland City Scoundrels taking the headline spots.
  • Our MC is our Councillor Josephine Bartley who will impress us with her stand-up comic skills.
  • Onehunga Bites – a food tent that hosts various local businesses with $6 portions of kai for everyone to enjoy.
  • Onehunga cardboard boat race – being facilitated by Aotea Sea Scouts leader Stephen Lasham, the boat race sees teams fight it out with home-made boats to cross the lagoon. Prizes include best design, fastest crossing and, the piece de resistance, the best sinking.

We hope that in 2021 everyone continues to support our local cafes, services and retailers who are still recovering from a tough year. We have such a great variety of places to visit in our community that it would be excellent if you could continue to support local.

Some dates for your diary are Saturday 31 July when the next Culinary Crawl is planned for Onehunga. And Music on the Mall will be a separate Spring event on Saturday 31 October.

Lots to look forward to in Onehunga!
