Christmas is coming to Onehunga

If 2020 is the year of Covid then it is also the year of supporting local in your community. And as residents of Onehunga I think you would agree that it is a pretty great place to live, and in my case, work.

In these changing circumstances the team at Onehunga Business Association have been focusing on helping keep the town centre humming with new or reimagined events and promotions.

Last month we launched the very successful Culinary Crawl, a progressive dinner with a difference. This highlighted some of our great local food venues here in Onehunga that you may have never tried before like Manna Kitchen or The Bramble. We also launched Music on the Mall to coincide with the crawl so that both ticketholders and the public could have some fun listening to music and have a great time in the evening. This first year has had a great response so we hope to be back bigger and better in 2021.

This month we are hosting our Onehunga Christmas Parade on 21 November. The parade has a mixture of professionals, local businesses and community groups participating to make the event special for the children and we have Matty McLean back to MC again to keep things upbeat and fun for everyone.

To ensure we do our best to socially distance people along the route we have made a few changes this year and will be hosting face painting and balloon twisting outside the Police Station between 11am - 1pm. We are also going to provide chalk marks on the street and QR codes to check in across the route so we can help keep everyone as safe as possible.

Please do your best to avoid the intersection with Arthur Street and Onehunga Mall at the Christmas Parade. We have noticed that there are a lot more people gathered at this point than anywhere else and we really encourage you to move south to have more space and a better view.

Finally, a new exhibition has gone up in the blue laneway between Onehunga Mall and Upper Municipal Place showing off Sony ambassador Tom Ang’s beautiful photographs of his garden. The photos will be up all summer and they really are a beautiful series of bright colours and stunning photography.
