The new 'normal' in Onehunga

It is great to see Onehunga is almost back to normal following the uncertainty of the last few months. On behalf of the business owners we want to thank you for your ongoing support.

We have had great success with our June promotion of a free coffee when you spend over $40 with a second round of vouchers needing to be printed. Please do not forget to use your voucher before 31 August at one of our participating cafes.

The Onehunga Business Association saw over 450 people come to our small office while we hosted the drop-in service for the Justice of the Peace. They are a very busy group of volunteers who give at least 2-3 hours per week to help authorise documents for applications. It has been eye-opening as to the number of people who have needed their services and we were very happy to host them while the Citizens Advice Bureau operated in a limited capacity. Things are now back to normal there so you will find the JPs and other volunteers in their offices underneath the Onehunga Library at 81 Church Street.

Over the next few months, the team at the Onehunga Business Association is ordinarily undertaking a lot of planning for our annual events. However, this year things are a little different. As a not-for-profit our events rely on sponsorship and grants and with the impact of Covid-19 there is a lot of uncertainty about our income sources. We are doing our best to seek funding but there may be some necessary changes to our traditional Christmas parade and Onehunga Festival if we are not able to get the support we need. Fingers crossed we will continue to have great community events for everyone to enjoy.
