Ho ho ho – it’s Christmas season

Clear your diaries for Saturday 23rd November when the Christmas season kicks off with our Onehunga Christmas Parade.

After a wash-out in 2018, this year’s parade promises fun and excitement with bands, Latin dancers, professional entertainers and Santa and Mrs Claus straight from the North Pole.

Starting at 11am in its traditional location of Arthur Street, the parade will take a right turn south onto Onehunga Mall and travel through the Church Street roundabout, turning around at Princes Street and returning to Arthur Street.

In 2019 we are lucky to have former Onehunga local Matty McLean as our host and keep an eye out for our judges who will award the best-looking floats with cash prizes of $500, $300 and $200. Lots of effort from our community go into these decorations so come along and show your support.

Between 11am and 1pm there will also be face painters and a balloon twister near St Peter’s Church and Santa Claus will come and sit on his throne following the parade to have a word to all the good children about their wishes.

The entertainment doesn’t stop at 1pm because the team at the YMCA Jordan Recreation Centre are also hosting some family-friendly activities and the St Peter’s Church congregation are hosting a fair with bric a brac, books, food and other activities in an annual fundraiser.

Onehunga is the place to be on 23rd November so we look forward to seeing everyone in the town centre.
