The Onehunga Business Association offers all members a trial of six organic waste collections.

We want to divert organic waste out of the general rubbish bin and back into the earth where it came from.

What is the organic waste collection?

Your organic waste is collected in a bin like your other waste/recycling bins from its location on your property. This is a under a contract with Green Gorilla.

It is collected as frequently as necessary (daily, twice weekly, weekly, fortnightly) then a whole truck-full of waste heads south to Tuakau where it’s disposed of at a commercial facility, Envirofert. Here, the compostable waste is mixed with about 10 times as much green waste, mulched together and then blasted with hot air (around 75 degrees) which over about 9 weeks, breaks everything down.

After maturing, the fresh compost is then distributed to farms in the Pukekohe and Bombay areas.

Cost of organic waste collections

Onehunga Business Association with the support of Auckland Council's Waste Minimisation Fund, is paying for the first six collections of your organic waste collection by Green Gorrilla.

Once your trial concludes, we encourage you to continue this collection. This costs between $15.50-$19.50 per collection. This reduces your waste to landfill and frees up space in your red bin. Someone from Green Gorilla will be in touch when you are undertaking your trial.
