Think of yourself as a sailor, captain or designer? Now is your chance to get sailing at the 2023 Onehunga Cardboard Boat Regatta on Saturday 5 March.

Coordinated by the Aotea Sea Scouts, the regatta is designed for wannabe sailors who see themselves in the next America's Cup squad. Teams must create a boat using a combination of cardboard, corflute, duct tape and glue. They are then painted with waterproof paint and are launched across the lagoon.

Prizes will be rewarded for:

  • Fastest crossing
  • Best looking boat

There is $20 fee for each boat entered into the race. Aotea Sea Scouts have some corflute available for registered master designers.

Registrations for the event close on 30 January.
