The NZ Transport Agency and Auckland Transport will shortly be starting to work to provide improvements in Onehunga as part of the first stage of the East West Connections project. Fulton Hogan will be carrying out the work between September 2016 and February 2017.
What are they doing?
The following work will take place:
- Additional lane constructed in each direction on State Highway 20 between Queenstown Road and Neilson Street
- Dedicated bus lanes will be added on State Highway 20 between Rimu Road and Walmsley Road
Four lanes will also be created (increasing from two) on Neilson Street between Alfred Street and Angle Street
- A new timber boardwalk and footpath will link to the existing walkway alongside Waikaraka Park
- Rail bridge at the end of Neilson Street will be removed and replaced with a new lowered road
How will it affect you?
Work will take place in stages ensuring that traffic flow is maintained at peak times. Hours of work are 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday. Some night work will take place at times.
