Governance: The OBA Committee
The OBA is incorporated under the Societies Act 1908 and is governed according to its constitution: Rules of the Onehunga Business Association Inc. Business Improvement District.
The OBA is governed by a committee comprising 5 to 9 elected OBA members and a representative of the Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board.
The OBA’s committee sets strategy, approves budgets, ensures that member funds are properly invested towards meeting OBA objectives, and ensures that OBA management meets greed performance objectives.
The OBA’s committee holds 11 monthly meetings at the OBA office (there is no meeting in January), and an Annual General Meeting is held around August/ September each year, at which time a new committee is elected by the members.
The elected Committee votes itself a President, a Vice President, and a Secretary, and appoints a member as Treasurer.

Key aspects of day-to-day operations include maintaining the security of the area (an extensive network of CCTVs was installed in 2011), liaising with businesses and community groups, and lobbying with Government, Council and Local Board for improvements to the area. The OBA also runs marketing and promotions of the Onehunga town centre, manage the Onehunga social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and organise a suite of events to bring people into the area such as the Onehunga Christmas Parade, Onehunga Festival and the Onehunga Heritage Festival.
