Join us to celebrate Onehunga's rich heritage. We have a varied programme of ten events including guided tours, talks, exhibitions and more from 23 September to 8 October.

The Onehunga Heritage Festival is part of the Auckland Heritage Festival presented by Auckland Council.


Heritage Guided Cycle Tour

23 Sept (rain date 30 Sept), 10:30am to 12:00pm - begins at Onehunga Community Library

Experience Onehunga's rich history as you cycle past sites of historical significance. Participants must be confident on a bike and children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Limited spaces available. To register email eileen.phillips@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz.

Exhibition - Onehunga's Changing Foreshore

25 Sept - 7 Oct, 10:00am to 4:00pm - Onehunga Community House, Room 7

An exhibition of photos and maps showing the changes to Onehunga's waterfronts from Te Papapa to Hillsborough since the early European settlement in the 1840s.

Colin's Walk

26 Sept, 10:00am to 12:15pm - begins at Onehunga Community Library

A two-hour guided walk of Onehunga's foreshore learning about the initial trading carried out in Onehunga and changes to the present day. To register email skiltoncyril@gmail.com.

Hear local author Stephen Lasham talk about his book "Onehunga's Changing Foreshore: A Pictorial History of Modifications to Onehunga's Waterfront Since the 1840s".

A themed book club focusing on the history of Onehunga people, places and first achievements. Pick a book from the curated selection at Onehunga Library from 12 September then share your discoveries at the book chat. Light refreshments provided.
